Spring Awakening
Karen and I went and saw the Tony Award winning musical Spring Awakening in East Lansing this weekend. It was fun to head out and see a nationally touring musical. The fans for it are incredibly dedicated since it's supposed to be one of those "musical of our generation" musicals. For my money, Rent (go see the musical: never watch the film first) will always beat out Spring Awakening, but I really liked the lighting, the set, and the way it was staged.
The show was originally written to be performed with the audience around the stage, so for Broadway they actually sell seats that are on the stage. The characters also sit in the seats when they're not in scenes, so some people have cast members sitting directly next to them singing during the show.
I didn't think that I was going to have any songs in my head the next day, but then Mama Who Bore Me came along (video stolen off youtube):
