Behold, a list of quotes for any situation in which you could need to be trite and reductionary. It is awesome.
I like playing Civilization IV. In it, you (and the other nations of the world) take your civilization from the stone age to the modern age and beyond. You can opt to win via conquest, by diplomacy, by building a space station, or a number of other ways.
Anyhow, as you discover new technologies (e.g. Animal Husbandry, Mining, Plastics, Monotheism, Civil Service, Rock and Roll),Patrick Stewart Leonard Nimoy (of Star Trek) reads a famous quote from history with his booming voice.
Discovered Pottery? He reads, "Hath not the potter power over the clay, to make one vessel unto honor, and another unto dishonor?" [Romans]
And for Economics: "Compound interest is the most powerful force in the universe." [Albert Einstein]
Robotics: "The real problem is not whether machines think, but whether men do." [B.F. Skinner]
Alright, I'm sure you've got the idea by now. Anyhow, the interesting thing about going through the quotes is you can take basically any complicated situation and apply a quote from the list. Doing so is unavoidable once you've played the game enough and will make you appear both wise and unhelpful.
So let me apologize in advance when next time you get on a paddleboat I tell you something like "one cannot discover new lands without losing sight of the shore" or "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return" before you go on a flight. I can't help it.
I'm not trying to be Wilson from Home Improvement, I promise.

Actually it's Leonard Nimoy (or the guy who played Spock), not Patrick Stewart top

which explains why I had such a hard time finding a video of Patrick Stewart doing civ quotes on youtube. Thanks.
I was definitely always a star wars guy as you can see. top
