My favorite Easter painting
This is not my favorite Easter painting. Don't get me wrong: the resurrection is the the best part of Easter itself, but that doesn't mean it is my favorite painting.
This is my favorite.
I like Giovanni Bellinni's Pieta because it's one of the few death of Jesus ones where you look at his face and He truly looks dead and like He has suffered greatly in death. He doesn't look like he is sleeping and there aren't little cherubs floating about. I think it gives better perspective to the whole suffering and really makes you think more about the time on earth between His death and His ascension and makes you wonder what dark times those must have been between the time He died and came back. It makes the resurrection all the more miraculous.
